Drug Test Flying Accra
Kotoka International Airport (ACC) is Accra's main international gateway, handling flights to Europe, North America, the Middle East, and across Africa. Ghana's 2023 decriminalisation applies to personal use within Ghana — it does not provide protection for carrying cannabis through an international airport or onto an aircraft, which remains subject to international law and the laws of your destination country.
Departing passengers at Kotoka go through standard international security screening including X-ray, metal detection, and occasional physical searches. Drug detection dogs are deployed in the airport. INTERPOL and the Ghana Police Service Narcotic Unit maintain a presence at the airport. While the focus of anti-drug enforcement at ACC is primarily on trafficking quantities rather than personal use, any cannabis in your luggage creates risk.
THC urine test windows: single use — up to 3 days; occasional — 5–7 days; daily — 10–15 days; heavy daily — up to 30 days. Blood tests clear faster: 1–2 days for occasional users. Hair follicle tests can detect use up to 90 days prior regardless of frequency.
If you are flying from Accra to a country with strict drug testing (Gulf states, Singapore, Japan, certain US employers who test on return), ensure you allow adequate THC clearance time before departure. See Drug Test After Vacation for a complete guide to clearance windows and home test guidance.
