About Kathmandu Coffeeshop Eindhoven
Kathmandu Coffeeshop has anchored the Stratumseind strip in Eindhoven since 2003, outlasting dozens of bars and venues that have opened and closed around it over two decades. The shop takes its name from the Himalayan city that became synonymous with cannabis tourism in the 1970s, a nod to a history the proprietors know well.
The interior is warm and dimly lit, with a relaxed atmosphere that encourages longer stays. The Stratumseind location means that Kathmandu is easily reached from Eindhoven Central Station within a ten-minute walk, and the surrounding street provides everything a visitor might need for an evening out.
The menu runs to between 12 and 20 varieties depending on the season, with a good balance of sativa, indica, and hybrid options. Hash selection covers the main Dutch and Moroccan varieties. Staff are efficient and helpful, with good knowledge of the menu.
Eindhoven is worth exploring beyond the coffeeshop: the Van Abbemuseum has one of the finest contemporary art collections in the Netherlands, and Strijp-S, the former Philips factory complex, has been transformed into a creative district with studios, galleries, and restaurants.
