Slovakia — CBD Legal / Small Amounts Administrative Fine
Bratislava has a growing market for CBD and hemp wellness products, driven by increased consumer awareness of hemp-derived health supplements across Central Europe. Slovakia’s 2021 reform introduced a tiered penalty system for cannabis possession, with very small quantities (up to 3g) now handled as administrative matters rather than criminal offences — though cannabis remains firmly illegal and possession is not encouraged.
The legal CBD market in Slovakia is aligned with EU standards: hemp-derived products containing less than 0.2% THC are lawful and available in specialist wellness shops, pharmacies and health food stores throughout Bratislava. CBD oils, hemp teas, hemp cosmetics and hemp food products are widely available.
Bratislava’s compact old town makes it easy to explore the city’s wellness shops on foot. The historic Stare Mesto district, the modern Petrzalka borough across the Danube, and the residential neighbourhoods of Ruzinov and Nove Mesto all have established CBD and hemp retail options for residents and visitors.

Cannabis is illegal in Slovakia. The 2021 reform changed the handling of very small quantities (up to 3g for personal use) from criminal to administrative proceedings, meaning a fine rather than a criminal conviction for minor possession. However, this is not decriminalisation — possession is still prohibited and will result in a penalty.
Larger quantities, cultivation and supply remain serious criminal offences. Slovakia does not have a medical cannabis programme for domestic patients, though some EU-approved medicines containing cannabinoids may be prescribed. CBD products derived from hemp with THC below 0.2% are fully legal and widely sold.
Visitors should purchase only from reputable CBD shops selling products with certified lab results confirming THC content. Do not attempt to purchase or use cannabis products beyond the legal CBD market in Bratislava.
