Drug Test Flying Addis
Bole International Airport (ADD) is the primary hub of Ethiopian Airlines and one of Africa's busiest international airports, connecting Addis Ababa to more than 120 destinations worldwide. Security at Bole operates to international standards and includes drug detection screening for both arriving and departing passengers.
Ethiopian customs and airport security maintain active drug interdiction programmes. While the primary target is trafficking quantities, any cannabis or high-THC product in your luggage creates a meaningful legal risk at Bole Airport. This applies regardless of what you consumed during your visit and whether or not any product remains on your person or in your bags.
Of particular note for travellers departing Addis Ababa for the Gulf states (Dubai, Doha, Riyadh): many Gulf carriers enforce their own country's drug laws from the point of boarding, and arrival in Gulf airports with cannabis or THC in your system can result in serious legal consequences. Some Gulf employers require drug testing on return from leave.
THC clearance times (urine): single use — 1–3 days; occasional — 5–7 days; daily — 10–15 days; heavy daily — up to 30 days. Blood tests clear faster. Hair follicle tests detect use up to 90 days prior. See our complete guide: Drug Test After Vacation.
